BACKGROUND TO CU & LINKS TO OTHER ORGANISATIONS

HOME PAGE

Communication Unlimited is a voluntary, independent organisation with charitable status

(Charity No 1006643)

We are user-controlled as the Management Committee has a majority of communication impaired people. This helps to ensure that the communication services offered reflect the true needs of the users of our service.

Being aware of the national skill shortages in communication services, CU aims to ensure that the services it offers are of the highest quality by the strength of its commitment to ongoing training.

CU began offering communication services on 1 December 1989 when it was funded by the European Social Fund in partnership with Derbyshire County Council.

Currently, CU has Service Agreements with Derbyshire County Council, Derbyshire Primary Care Trust and Derby City Council. These Service Agreements are essential for CU to maintain its community provision. In addition, to allow the current staffing level to continue, CU provides services to many organisations who are invoiced.
