Hello, I'm Mary Walters, the co-ordinator of Communication Unlimited I've been in post since December 1989. Initially, I worked from home. That then progressed to a converted garage becoming the office base at Derbyshire Centre for Integrated Living (DCIL). As Communication Unlimited grew, we moved to the Lois Ellis Home at Mackworth. Over the years the team has continued to expand as have the premises. Our current base is Perth House in Chaddesden. On a more personal note, I'm married with 2 grown-up children, Robert and Helen. My husband, who is Deaf, and I have been married for 38 years. |

My name is John Emery. I have been a Qualified Interpreter since December 2000 and have worked at CU since October 2000. I did my training at "The Barn" in Newark with Sign Language International and the University of Lancashire. Previously I have worked in Manchester for the RNID, Walsall College and Staffordshire Assist. My journey to becoming an interpreter started in 1992 when I went to a Sign Language class with a pal from University and so coming from an all hearing family, I started from scratch. |

Hello, I'm Rosemary Wheat, a Qualified interpreter (March 04) having attended an NVQ4 course at Walsall College. I started working part-time for CU in September 2000. I have been signing all my life as both my parents were deaf. When they died I wanted to continue to be a part of the community so I went to college and gained my CACDP Stage 1 and 2. I successfully completed my Level 3 at Derby College for Deaf People being taught by Wendy Daunt and Jerry Hanifin. I work part-time as I have 5 children, 1 girl and 4 boys. |

Athough I have always used BSL, as both my parents are Deaf, I only began training to become an interpreter when I joined CU in 2001.
